Crikey ‘It aint half hot mum’ If you are of a certain age you will know what TV programme that came from.
As I write this newsletter its pouring down, first proper rain for many a week and what a hot spell it has been.
There has been plenty of model covering wrinkling in the heat !!! It has been nice though with some good evening flying when the heat supsided a bit.
Anthony took a fantastic photo which captured summer evening flying.

Make the best of the photo because very soon it will be dark and dreary with it
going dark at 4pm !!!
Message from the Comittee

When it is time for a newsletter I always speak to the committee to ask if there is anything that needs to go in the newsletter, the message I get back is ‘No all good’ however occasionally something crops up that I am asked to mention, so this month there is a message with regard to housekeeping in the club hut.
Now clearly it does not take a genius to work out that this bin is full and needs emptying, there are black bin bags in the hut, if you see this please don’t dump your rubbish next to the bin, use a black bin bag and empty the bin and take it home to help the club out. It is not about ‘well its not my rubbish’ its about helping out and keeping the hut tidy.
A Cerificates
Recently Dave Hindley (club examiner) had the pleasure of testing and passing three members. Dave said they all did well in extremely hot conditions.
The proud new holders of the A certificate are :
- Paul waine
- Neil redshaw
- Mark Furnival
Well done to them all. If you require any information with regard to taking your A certificate speak to any of the trainers or Dave Hindley also there is plenty of information on the BMFA website around the A certificate
Shortage Of Petrol Engines
I was reading on an American model forum last week about the apparent shortage of model petrol engines (or gas as they call them) in the USA especially smallish twins. One of the flyers had emailed Stinger Engines direct as he was fed up of dealing with the US importer, to his surprise he got a reply from them, Stinger are Chinese by the way, the reply was full of the normal customer support comments you would expect but further down the email Stinger said ‘There is currently a high demand for our smaller twin gas engines and our manufacturing resources are being directed to this demand’.
I turned the news on the other night to see Ukrainian drones taking off in mass with what appeared to be small twin petrol engines on the back of them.
I let you draw your own conclusions.
Flying Field Events
Over the last few weeks we have held three events at the field these being ‘The Club Fly-in’ ‘BMFA Scale North West Round’ and the club ‘Scale and Aero show Trophy’
‘The Club Fly-in’
This event was an open invite to other clubs to come along and just ‘fly’ no competition just fly, the turn out from our members was OK but as ever more support would have been better, we did have some visitors form other clubs with some interesting models. We had al carte dining cooked by Jake with plenty of food available.
It was a great day with a challenging northerly breeze which did increase in strength as the day progressed.
Our club president Phil Leach very kindly provided some splendid wine as prizes.

Thanks to everybody who turned up and to everybody who helped with the catering.
‘BMFA North West scale Round’
This is where the club host the North West BMFA scale round, we as a club let the BMFA use our field for the event.
OK yes the field was closed for normal flying although members could of flown at the lunch break and after the event finished.
The club gets good exposure by letting this event happen and there are some youtube videos posted by some of the contestants out there all with comments about it being a great field. They also make a small donation to club funds.
Its not everybody’s cup of tea as on the surface of it there does not seem to be anything happening as only one person flies their schedule at a time.
It was nice to see one of John Higgins planes flying it looked splendid as you would expect.
A few photos of the event below

‘Club Scale Day & Aero show Trophy’
This event is where our club members bring along their scale aircraft and fly them in a scale like manner, also the aero show trophy is about flying an aircraft like it is meant to be flown but not necessarily a scale aircraft so in other words somebody could fly a WOT4 but declare they are going to fly it like a piper cub for example.
On the day this did not happen as no members turned up with non scale aircraft, the overall turn out on the day was quite small so an impromptu low key competition was run with a couple of prizes at the end, I assume the trophies might be presented at the AGM in December.
What struck me was the fantastic detail in some of the foam scale models now, it would take years to build some of the subjects and even then the scale detail would not be on the same level.
The two winners on the day were :
Justin Goldstone with his DH Chipmunk. This model flew and sounded just the part.
Josh Henderson with his T33 fighter . Again Josh flew this model in a scale like manner
Thank you to everybody who turned and had a great days flying.
Apparently just after I left Mike Watter did a great display with a control line stunt plane, there are some videos around of him flying this model.

The list of club trainers has been refreshed and their names are below.

Training sessions are Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings weather dependant of course
