Well autumn is definitely upon now, the leaves are dropping off the trees and the temperature has starting to drop, having said that there have been a couple of splendid flying days recently sandwiched in between very windy days.

I think we need Carol Kirkwood to come and explain why we can have four consecutive days of twenty miles per hour winds then a day of three miles per hour wind followed by more twenty miles per hour wind days.

I am sure there will be a name for this condition besides ‘British Weather’

By now you all will have received emails from Steve Warburton regarding the bonfire night and the AGM. The AGM is your chance to listen to the committee’s end of year reports and raise any concerns you have. Please read Steve’s email about any proposed rule changes, they have to be submitted by a certain date. If you fancy having a go at being on the committee then this is the time to start thinking about it.

Aero Show Trophy Sat 17th September

This was the last formal club event of the year, I say formal it is always a light hearted event.

So the sun was out however there was a horrible north/ north west wind blowing right in our faces. This wind was also a tad chilly with people frantically looking in their cars for extra garments to warm up.
Our judge for the day was John Smith who was volunteered by everyone bar himself.

The format for the event was as per previous years, fly a simple schedule with a few of your own manoeuvrers added in or a more advanced aerobatic schedule

Now the wind direction did provide us with some interesting flying schedules. At one point I did wonder if John Smith was a target !!! but cool as a cucumber John sat there and did not flinch whilst planes whistled past his nose, he either did not see them or it was his old SAS training that had come out (again).
Later in the day it became apparent why he did not flinch, he was that cold he could not move, his legs had seized up.

Everybody had a good time and all the models went home in one piece which is always a bonus.

Stan our photographer took some amazing photos which I have enclosed a selection of.

For reference the results of the competition are as follows. No money changed during the results being decided.

Scale Competition

1st Tim Fairhurst – Super EZ
2nd Dave Murray – Yak
3rd Dave Hindley – Corsair
4th Paul Cusworth – MX2

The dates of the meetings are as below.

2nd November 2022

14th December 2022 (quiz night/hotpot supper)
4th January 2023
1st February 2023
1st March 2023
5th April 2023

The annual quiz night date has had to be moved slightly this year due the availability of the room. This night is always a good night with plenty of banter.

Sadly are normal quiz master is no longer with us but don’y worry another quiz master has been drafted in. Nearer the time a communication will be put out with regard to the number of people planning on attending, this is needed for catering purposes

Trainers

Below is the list of current trainers for the club. Get to know these people if you are learning to fly. Ask them for their phone numbers so that you can ring them to check availability. This save’s wasted journeys which can lead to frustration for trainees.

Jason Reid, Mark Conlin, John Higgins, Brian Holdsworth, Chris Vernon, Andy Harrison, Jim Sheldon, Paul Cusworth, Justin Goldstone and Kevin Watson.

The vast majority of these trainers are in employment so their availability is governed by their work. Please bear this in mind when arranging a flying session

Don’t forget the main training session during the summer is Wednesday nights, weather dependant of course

AGM Reminder

The AGM is on 7th December
