Newsletter

I hope this newsletter finds you well and happy

Well the days are getting shorter and there is a cooler feel to the mornings now, historically September has tended to be a better month for weather than August so lets hope for some good flying days over the next few weeks, calm with little or no wind would be a bonus.

August bank holiday weekend turned out to be a splendid few days with some great flying days. The Sunday was particularly good with a fantastic turn out of people, at some times there were aircraft stacked waiting to fly

I overheard somebody say ‘This is what it used to be like years ago’.

This brings me nicely onto a photograph I recently found. I am not sure of the year but it is interesting see the pits full to bursting with models and people.

You can see Phil Leach and Dave in the foreground. I am not sure if that is Agnes sat down next to Phil, the lack of a wine glass makes me think it might not be, I am sure Phil will educate me as to the identity of the lady.

If anybody else can identify any other people on the photograph it would be good to know.

A piece of Mrs V’s cake if anybody gives me the correct name of the very nice red and white bi-plane in the foreground, the full name please. Dave and Nobby Clarke had several versions of these planes, at the time when the appeared at the field with them everybody thought they were the biggest model planes in the whole world, how things move on.

If you have any nostalgic photos of the club events I will publish a couple of them in the newsletters

Congratulations

Richard Cuthbert successfully completed his BMFA A test on Saturday 10th September. I think he wont mind me saying it was not a straight forward journey to achieve this, I will let Richard tell you about the run up to the test himself. Richard has put in a lot of training and practice in over the last few weeks so it was well deserved.

A thanks goes out to Kevin Watson who drove over to take Richard for the test.

We know need to get the remaining people who have not passed their A certificate through the test

Hopefully this newsletter will reach in time to remind you of the annual aero show event. This event has been advertised in all the newsletters no excuses of ‘I did not know it was on’

Aero Show Trophy Sat 17th September

Our annual club aero show competition. Fly a simple scale schedule.
Now don’t panic as Corporal Jones would say !!!

This is a bit of fun nothing serious, even if you are still training we can coach you through some simple manoeuvres.

Any aircraft can enter scale or non scale

4th January 2023
1st February 2023
1st March 2023
5th April 2023

The annual quiz night date has had to be moved slightly this year due the availability of the room. This night is always a good night with plenty of banter.

Sadly are normal quiz master is no longer with us but don’y worry another quiz master has been drafted in.

Nearer the time a communication will be put out with regard to the number of people planning on attending, this is needed for catering purposes

Trainers

Below is the list of current trainers for the club. Get to know these people if you are learning to fly. Ask them for their phone numbers so that you can ring them to check availability. This save’s wasted journeys which can lead to frustration for trainees.

Jason Reid, Mark Conlin, John Higgins, Brian Holdsworth, Chris Vernon, Andy Harrison, Jim Sheldon, Paul Cusworth, Justin Goldstone and Kevin Watson.

The vast majority of these trainers are in employment so their availability is governed by their work. Please bear this in mind when arranging a flying session

Don’t forget the main training session during the summer is Wednesday nights, weather dependant of course

Rubbish Reminder

I went down to the field on Sunday and on the table were two empty coke cans and a foam control surface of a plane, aileron I think

Take it home please

Stay Safe
